When I decided that I’m gonna move to Spain I was sure that my time I want to spend in some volunteer work. I tried it in Croatia and since then, I’m in love with volunteering.

If you missed it, all about my volunteer experience in Croatia, click here – My volunteer experience in Croatia.

This time, this kind of volunteering was different, something that I never did before and in that kind of jobs my experience was completely and one big ZERO.

Ok, I was working with people, to work with people and to communicate with them it’s not something that I was doing for the first time, but in one way it was because it was mostly in Spanish language. Before I moved to Spain I was learning Spanish for some short time, but I improved it during my life there. This was a double challenge for me.

I was searching for the options where I can volunteer. I was living at the north of Spain. To be exact in Galician capital town – Santiago de Compostela.

Santiago de Compostela is famous because of “El camino” or English version – The way.

There are a lot of options, but the most famous is 800 km long and it starts in French Pyrenees – in little place called San Jean Pied de Port. The “last” stop is exactly Santiago. This way is well-known from the movie called “The way” with Martin Sheen. When you walk that way you have a nickname – Pilgrim.

I was that there is an opportunity that you can volunteer in their Pilgrim’s Office. I wrote an e-mail to them that I would like to join their team if there is a place. I started in March 2018 and I stayed there almost 5 months.

I had an amazing experience and the best colleges in the whole world! 🙂

There are all like a one big family there and I had my best time with them, I would repeat it hundred times!

You’re supposed to volunteer for 4 hours at least per day. Your job consists to welcome Pilgrims, to give them their last stamp in their “passport” – called credencial and to write a document which is a prove that they walked all the way – called Compostela.

The best part of it that I liked the most was the smile back that you get from the people who came to you. There is no better thing to start your day with.

I won’t forget my months and days there for sure, it’s a lifetime experience.

If you want to be part of it also, you can write an e-mail and deal about everything.

Who knows, maybe I’ll come back one day there! 🙂

Even better would be if this post inspires you to try it – you never know maybe we meet there one day, for sure the world is so small, so why not.
